The Spring of Rebuilding

Marijn van Hoorn

Three months ago,α i decided to commit myself, in lieu of a new year’s resolution, to my first seasonal theme: the Winter of Being Less Online. The experiment has been, in my view, a resounding success, and given that the spring equinox is just around the corner, it’s time to select a new one.

I have decided, then, that the spring of 12021 is to be the Spring of Rebuilding. My mental health reached its nadir somewhere around January, and though it has been slowly climbing its way back up, i hope that this month’s seasonal theme will remind me to take care of myself.

The theme of “rebuilding” also goes hand-in-hand with the government’s covid-19 reopening plan: the ongoing pandemic has done a number on everyone’s mental health and, conveniently, the plan stipulates that, if all goes well and vaccinations go according to scheduleβ, everything will be as it was before by the 21st of June — the day of the summer solstice.

On a final note, “rebuilding” is not juſt about here. It is alſo about the other place; that is, rebuilding my relationſhips with the Divine. I’ve been backſliding on my worſhip ſince December, so part of this season’s theme is meant to give me a good kick in the behind to ſtart regularly practiſing again. 😅γ
